It has a pretty and elegant design in the shape of a marquise. The name comes from the smile of the Marquise de Pompadour, the mistress of the French king Louis XV who offered her a ring of the same shape of her delicate smile. The ring is marked with the horse’s head, the 18kt gold assay mark used in France between 1838 and 1911.
