Victorian Antinous Shell Cameo Pendant Brooch
£2,200
Heritagem presents:
This beautiful important brooch, convertible into pendant, features a shell cameo set on 18kt yellow gold. The cameo depicts Antinous as Dionysos. This young man was the favourite of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Dionysos is the Greek wine god, which is why Antinous is wearing a crown of vine leaves with grapes. The cameo is in very good antique condition, it is from the Victorian era since it marked with the French horse’s head (mark used in France between 1838 and 1911).
All our items comes with either a gemmological report or a jewellery report with circa and all useful information.
